Fourteen years after a feud was sparked, the Qiao and Wei families become united when Xiao Qiao is sent to marry Wei Shao in her sister's place.

Xiao Qiao and Wei Shao's marriage talks end poorly. Misunderstood by the people of Xindu, Wei Shao gains some support thanks to Xiao Qiao's help.

Wei Shao sends Xiao Qiao away from Xindu after gaining the seal. Xiao Qiao vows to stop Liu Yan's evil plan. Wei Shao attacks Panyi.

Xiao Qiao is torn between Wei Shao and Liu Yan. She mourns her grandfather but, out of duty, she vows to honor her engagement.

Wei Shao attends his family's memorial, leaving the injured Xiao Qiao outside the city. She feigns weakness, stirring his guilt.

Xiao Qiao struggles with her mother-in-law. Elders urge Wei Shao to take a concubine — though seemingly loving, he is wary of the Qiao family.
