It's 1938 in Warsaw. Engineer Stefan Kowalski heads to the Ministry of Communications and runs into Basia, who helps him collect his scattered drafts.

Before traveling to Jerusalem, Barbara remembers the old days. She thinks back to her simple wedding in the summer of 1941.

Basia and Stefan visit Stefan's father, who's in hospital in Tworki. Ina escapes from the ghetto to Zygmunt's apartment, and she's allowed to stay.

Hiding their weapons in an unfinished subway, Stefan and Zygmunt find a group of Jews who escaped from the ghetto, among whom are Stefan's friends.

Fall 1942. Basia and Stefan go to the countryside for Prof. Kaniewski's name day and celebrate with the Kohns. Mrs. Kohn struggles with her illness.

Spring 1943. Pilnik receives a death sentence. Stefan takes an oath and joins the ranks of the Home Army. How will he handle his first mission?
