A retired police hero is killed. He has been very involved in the debates over where a national preparedness centre should be based, and the level of threat against several policemen is heightened. What is the connection, and are more people under threat? One of the murder victims is Kit’s close friend and mentor, and in the course of the investigation we realise how close Kit is to Victoria and the role he has played in her life.

Mohr’s champion cause—surrogacy—seems to be at the heart of all her conflicts, and has led to confrontations with party leader Frank Bø. The investigation takes an unexpected twist when the leads point towards a pregnant TV celebrity—who is 59—Vanessa, who seems to have left reality behind for reality TV.
